Common Health & Safety Courses
Plant Machinery Marshal
- Duration
- Novice 1 day for up to 3 people, Experienced Worker test is 1 day for up to 6 people.
- Location
- Can be done at our external training area in Westwood or at the customer’s site.
- Prerequisites
- Novice, nothing needed, EWT must be experienced, this is a test only.
- Description
- Once completed the delegate will:
Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operative.
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular vehicle/machine to be used.
Have a good understanding of signs and signals, approved hand signals and different forms of communication.
Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for vehicle marshal.
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
Set up exclusion zone for unloading.
Guide vehicle/machinery in a forward and reverse direction including confined spaces and blind spots maintaining full visual contact.
Environmental considerations.
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
- Once completed the delegate will:
- Qualification Gained
- Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive a NPORS card which is valid for upto 5 years.
Site Safety Awareness
- Duration
- 1 day
- Location
- Can be done at our external training area in Westwood or at the customer’s site.
- Prerequisites
- Novice 1 day health and safety to secure or renew the CSCS card.
- Description
- At the end of the course the delegate will have an understanding of:
Why they are carrying out their identified duties
What is expected of them while on site
How they contribute to the safety of the workplace
The need to prevent accidents
Health and safety law
How your role fits into the control and management of the site
Risk assessments and method statements
Performing safely and asking for advice
How to report unsafe acts to prevent an accident
- At the end of the course the delegate will have an understanding of:
- Qualification Gained
- Successful candidates will be awarded with a Health and Safety Awareness certificate, which is valid for five years and can used to help gain a CSCS card.
Slinger/Signaller
- Duration
- Novice 2 days for up to 3 people, Experienced Worker test is 1 day for up to 6 people.
- Location
- Can be done at our external training area in Westwood or at the customer’s site.
- Prerequisites
- Novice, nothing needed, EWT must be experienced, this is a test only.
- Description
- At the end of the course the delegate will have an understanding of:- Establishing the weight and dimensions of loads and communicating this information to the crane operator
– Selecting appropriate lifting tackle, attaching and detaching it correctly and safely
– Directing the actions of a crane moving loads of various weights and dimensions, giving clear and unambiguous signals in such a manner as to ensure the safety of personnel and plant
– Determining the serviceability of lifting tackle maintaining and storing it correctly
– The duties and responsibilities, as required by statute, of a slinger/signaller
– The effects of load movement on the stability of a crane
– Potential hazards associated with crane operation how to overcome them
– The effect of varying the angles of multi-leg slings and how to calculate their safe working loads
– Methods of establishing weights and dimensions of loads
– The standard code of signals
– Operator problems of crane control
– Automatic safe load indicators
– Crane safety devices
